Cuckoolele loves to sing and play her ukulele, but she’s forgotten the words to her song!

In this colourful, musical storybook young children can follow along with or without a ukulele as Cuckoolele’s friends help her to remember the words to her cuckoo call. Through the story they will learn the open strings of the ukulele (G-C-E-A) and learn the names of the musical note.

The book provides access to Cuckoolele Club, a webpage with free online audio tracks and supporting videos to encourage children to join in and pluck the open strings of their ukulele when they hear the Cuckoolele call.

Meet Cuckoolele and her Friends

Like languages, the earlier that children are exposed to music, the better.

As music and primary school teachers we couldn’t find a good resource to help teach very young children how to play an instrument. So we created Cuckoolele and the Forgotten Song!

A ukulele is easy for little hands to hold, and only has four strings so learning to play chords is simpler than a guitar.

But the best of all is that it’s not as LOUD and SQUEAKY as a recorder (we know you were thinking that too, and ‘You’re Welcome.’ 😁).

This book is for...

Parents, grandparents, teachers, TA’s, support staff or anyone caring for young children who wants to introduce them to the wonderful world of music through fun and imagination.

BENEFITS OF MUSIC IN EARLY YEARS

Music and the Brain

It’s no surprise that a 2016 study at the University of Southern California’s Brian and Creativity Institute found that musical experiences in childhood actually accelerate brain development, particularly in the areas of language acquisition and reading skills.

Self Esteem & Confidence

As children begin to master playing a musical instrument they will quickly develop a real sense of achievement which will really boost their confidence and self worth. As their musical journey develops, children then benefit from playing music with others and performing which further develops their confidence and esteem.

Connection

Cuckoolele will help develop connections not only between parents & teachers/carers and their children but also children and those around them. This is an active book with lots of possibilities for individual or group participation. Parents/carers and teachers can connect with children when reading the book, giving children the opportunity to participate almost immediately.

Inspiring an Early Love of Literacy and Music

Children reading this book with their carers will not even know that they are learning! They will be learning the open strings of the ukulele, the names of musical notes through an exciting story, rhyme and song. We are aiming to inspire learners to have a love for music and literacy from as early as 2 years old!
